Winward islands

The Windward Islands are the southern and eastern islands of the Lesser Antilles. They include the Antilles Islands of Martinique, St Vincent and the Grenadine, Grenada, St Lucia, Dominica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.

The islands are known for their vibrant green landscapes, breathtaking beaches and clear waters, making them ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, snorkelling and scuba diving.

Martinique is the largest of the Windward Islands. Characteristics of this island are the mountainous landscape and the beautiful beaches. As Martinique is a French Territory, it offers an exciting mix of both classic Caribbean and French culture which is demonstrated in their spoken language of creole (a mixture of old French, English and African languages that arose through trade many years ago).

St Vincent and the Grenadines

St Vincent and the Grenadines

St Vincent and the Grenadines is located in the southeast Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. Consists of the main island of Saint Vincent and, south of that, two-thirds of the northern part of the Grenadines, a chain of 32 smaller islands. The island of Saint Vincent is volcanic and heavily forested and includes little level ground. The prevailing winds and currents are north to south, especially in the winter months. It is comfortable to sail southward from St. Vincent down to Union Island, with the wind and the swell.

St Lucia

St Lucia is the second largest island of the Lesser Antilles, and is characterized by the double volcanic cone. The island is gorgeous and unconditionally tropical. With its idyllic landscapes, exceptional sailing conditions, and a wide range of boats to rent, Saint Lucia is the ultimate destination for a memorable sailing adventure.

Barbados

Barbados

Barbados is a mix of British, African and Caribbean culture. It is an all-coral Caribbean island, providing beautiful white sandy beaches and great diving. Visitors can explore Colonial Bridgetown, mangrove forests with monkeys, the Mount Gay Rum refinery and of course miles and miles of beautiful beach. Because it is relatively secluded and unprotected, it can be tricky to cruise by yacht.
